Bao was an orphan, left by his parents in the care of a mountain temple in China. Chin Gentsai
was asked by the head priest to adopt him, and agreed after Bao exhibited psycho power. Before
Bao's power could get out of control, Chin
decided it was necessary to train him. Bao soon met Chin's other students, Sie Kensou
and Athena
Asamiya, and soon formed a strong bond with them. During their training, Kensou
and Bao gradually and mysteriously lost their powers. It is unknown how it
happened, but Bao and Kensou continue
to lose and gain their powers as the years progress, as both of them share the
same source of energy: the Dragon Spirit. Bao has been absent from KOF after the
2001 tournament.

KOF has its fair share of "cool badass dudes". Comically, Bao and his
cuteness stood out
as "original" in the series. His visual design is simplistic in a way,
but the oversized hat is kinda cool, I'll admit. Although, I still don't think this
lil punk kid really belongs in
a fighting game. lol. Bao definitely has entertaining mannerisms &
animations, similarly to the humor and personality that Mega
Man brought to the MVC series. Bao was definitely one
of the "better animated" and compelling KOF sprites in KOF
'99... and still looked modern a year later in KOF2000...
making him "more likeable" as a character in my book (compared to
several ancient KOF sprites that were looking old by then,
animation-wise).
Bao fits well as part of the cheerful Psycho
Soldier Team, although he can be annoying to fight against at times. (It
always brings the LULs to boot Bao off the screen with a cooler KOF
character.) I never expect every character design to appeal to me, so I suppose Bao might appeal
to some younger KOF fans, or maybe girls? (Who also might like Harry Potter, perhaps?)
Shinkiro's artwork, man.
