If
you haven't heard by now, this past weekend's CEO '16 went down in history
as one of the most exciting fighting game events to date. One of the
highlights was the appearances of WWE Superstar Xavier Woods and NJPW
Champion Kenny Omega. As previously
reported
on TFG, both pro-wrestlers are avid fighting game fans. At CEO, the two
squared off in a Street Fighter V exhibition and even a DDR battle.
Below are some videos of their encounter on CEO's main stage. Also continue scrolling down for some personal photos featuring yours truly with the pro-wrestling legends!
After the SFV
battles, they headed over to the "JebaileyLand" arcade (which
hosted TEKKEN 7: Fated Retribution and a ton of other arcade
games). They kicked off their JebaileyLand tour with a DDR battle.
Unfortunately I missed
seeing their SFV exhibition live because I was playing in the TEKKEN
7 tournament over in JebaileyLand (13th place out of 256
baby!), but I did catch the end of their DDR battle and nabbed some pictures
with the guys afterwards.
I also got to talk with Mr. Omega for a bit, and asked him a few questions
about his experience with fighting games. Like myself, he grew up with Street
Fighter 2 on SNES (and arcade) and has been a fighting game fan all
his life! In case you don't know, Kenny uses a ton of fighting game /
video game homages in his pro-wrestling moveset. He also put in some
serious practice time with SFV to prepare for CEO (which paid off)! Below is his
CEO training video from 2 weeks back.
Big
congratulations to CEO Founder & Organizer Alex Jebailey for this groundbreaking
FGC/WWE/NJPW cross-promotion and another successful event (that I
love attending every year). Speaking of whom, during CEO '16, Jebailey
dressed up as WWE's John Cena and interrupted Kenny Omega's match with
Justin Wong. Watch below to see how it all unfolded.
Last but not least, Xavier
Woods posted this "thank you CEO" video on Twitter that also
features Kenny Omega (below).
