Gear: Judgment
STORY: A week has passed
without any word from the small Eastern European kingdom of Villtania. However,
as refugees are found, the United Nations becomes aware of devastation and
ungodly experiments conducted by Villtania's leading sorcerer and scientist,
Raimond. As a result, the United Nations declares an international emergency and
promptly offers a reward to anyone who can stop Raimond and bring order back to
Villtania. A large gathering of warriors attracted to earning the bounty soon
fight to decide who will challenge Raimond.

REVIEW:
In Guilty
Gear Judgment, players can re-experience the fast paced action of Guilty Gear X2 #Reload
on the go with Sony's PlayStation Portable. To accompany the classic arcade
title, players will delve into an all new Guilty Gear gameplay
experience called "Guilty Gear
Judgment" - a beat-em-up style, side-scrolling action game.
Similar to the Boost mode found in Guilty Gear Isuka,
players can take any of their favorite Guilty Gear personas through a
variety of levels, taking out hordes of enemies on the way. This mode supports
both 1-player and 2-player (via the PSP's wireless connectivity).

So how does
Guilty Gear fare as a side-scroller? ...not too bad actually. You can perform most of
each character's special and super moves to mow down hordes of evil creatures.
Unfortunately there's not much of a story in this mode... you pretty much just kill
everything that moves (similar to your everyday FPS). 
The sprites in Judgment are noticeably smaller than those found in the
other game in this package (Guilty Gear X2 #Reload),
but still animate smoothly and look great for the most part. It's a fun playthrough (especially with 2 players), though
definitely a bit repetitive.

As far as the portable version of GGX2 #Reload goes, the sprites and backgrounds look
nearly just as good
on PSP as they do on PS2. While a lot of presentation elements like artwork and
backgrounds are reused from earlier installments, graphically, the game still
manages to impress... especially
on a handheld system. It might not be 100% arcade perfect, but it's a very solid
port of one of the best versions of Guilty Gear to date. On that note, Guilty
Gear Judgment is definitely the best portable
version of the series to date.

The
beat-em-up mode is a bit repetitive... but worth a look.

Guilty Gear Judgment gave fans the BEST handheld version of Arc System
Works' trademark series to date. The slick PSP screen manages to conveniently show off the artistry and beauty of Guilty Gear's
stylized graphics and 2D sprites, and won't fail to impress any bystanders looking over your shoulder.
For "retired" or even non-Guilty Gear fans, this portable package just might rekindle your excitement for the long-running XX series.
