REVIEW:
Guilty Gear XX #Reload is an upgrade to Guilty Gear XX
and was intended to
further balance high-level gameplay. A handful of moves and new abilities were
added for all characters, from slight
tweaks in speed and damage to almost complete re-workings in some cases. "False
Roman Cancels" were also added to the gameplay system, enabling new
strategies. "Shadow"
characters were added to the game, which are different versions of EX
version characters akin to the Gold characters. Finally, Justice and Kliff were
brought back onto the playable roster.

Another
visit to the wild Guilty Gear universe.
|
Possibly the most notable update of #Reload
is Robo-Ky, the (previous) "palette
swap" of Ky Kiske in Guilty Gear XX. This time around, Robo-Ky was given his own original moveset
(which is awesomely hilarious) and he is now selectable from the start. The entertaining,
fully-voiced Story Mode from GGXX makes its return, as well as
Mission, Survival,
and a Medal of Millionaire mode where you battle it out for "medals". Visually, the
returning 2D sprites and "anime
style" animation of Guilty Gear X still impresses, so while the
overall visuals really haven't changed at all
from the prequel (besides the HUD colors), the game still looks great.

Final
Words: |
Overall, #Reload was a
solid enhancement to GGXX... definitely a step in the right direction
"competitively," although it didn't look or feel very
much like a true sequel for the "not-so-hardcor"e crowd. Expectedly, the game
didn't evolve much since the first GGX (but overall still looks
impressive).
Non-hardcore GGX players (like myself) might have expected a bit more for
re-buying
what is essentially the same game yet again.
Easily the best thing about this version is the debut of the real Robo-Ky, who is downright badass...
he's no Ky Kiske palette swap anymore, that's for sure!
